Tim Stainton retained as consultant by the Province of Nova Scotia and the Disability Rights Coalition

Following the  Nova Scotia Court of Appeal Decision on October 6, 2021 that there is systemic discrimination in Nova Scotia against persons with disabilities in the provision of social assistance, the Disability Rights Coalition (DRC) and the Department of Community Services (DCS) are working collaboratively to create a remedy that will end this discrimination and change the way that supports are provided in Nova Scotia.

Tim Stainton has been retained as a consultant by the Province of Nova Scotia and the Disability Rights Coalition to work with Eddie Bartnik of Australia in developing a report and recommendations regarding a systemic human rights remedy to address the discriminatory treatment of persons with disabilities in their access to supports and services under the Social Assistance Act in Nova Scotia, as found by the Nova Scotia Court of Appeal.

From October 3 – 7, 2022, Mr. Bartnik and Tim Stainton as a first step, will be hosting discussions with key disability stakeholders, government of Nova Scotia policy and program experts, and front line supports and service providers to get an in-depth view of the situation in Nova Scotia for people with disabilities and the steps needed to support people to thrive in their communities.
